As indicated in Step IV, Temperature Control System Revisions, we are more and more frequently determining that replacement of the broken, dirty, antiquated pneumatic temperature controls systems, is in our client's best long-term interest. However, this is a recent phenomenon for Climate Makers. We never hopped on the energy management system (EMS) bandwagon. We felt that many of the strategies of the early time clock like systems were ill conceived. Our experience of fixing what was broken, cleaning what was dirty, working with the in-house maintenance personnel and eliminating simultaneous cooling and heating was proving to save more, cost less and provide greater comfort improvement. We'll admit that our work didn't have much prestige, but our clients came to understand its effectiveness.
The main problem is that: ventilation rates change; sequences of operation for greater comfort improvement change; classroom and office functions change; and so on. Each time this happens, the pneumatic temperature control panel has to be reworked. This can often be done by simply re-utilizing the existing controls.
